When taking a road trip it is important to take breaks often so that children do not get too cranky. As tempting as it may be to drive straight through to your destination, taking little breaks can really make the ride more pleasant for kids and the adults alike. Stop at parks, restaurants with play areas, or open grassy areas to let your children run off excess energy during the trip.

Keep a good rotation of toys in your house. This can prevent your toddler from becoming tired of playing with the same thing. Toddlers may not be interested in a toy if they play with it a lot, unless they really love it. Rotating other toys keeps the newness and novelty of the toys fresh for your toddler, and keeps you from constantly adding more toys to their collection.

Don’t forget your child’s favorite toy, blanket, or stuffed animal when traveling. A vacation can be a major disruption to the routine of a child, so if you work on keeping their routines in place and having something comforting for them, it can make it a lot easier. Giving children a special toy or security blanket helps them in big changes.
