You should never smoke in your house, whether you have children in the house or not. In fact, consider simply quitting smoking for good. Secondhand smoke can cause just as many problems as smoking yourself. Smoking around your children can be very hazardous and cause many respiratory issues including asthma, bronchitis or pneumonia.

By setting firm, yet positive, boundaries and rules for your children you can avoid a lot of family discord and everyone will get along better. Telling your children “hands are for helping and not hurting” is better than just saying “don’t hit” because it gives them an example of what to do instead of just telling them what NOT to do.

To keep your child from becoming bored with his or her toys, put some away periodically or shift some to the bottom of his or her toy box. Usually a toddler will quit paying attention to a toy, unless it’s one of their favorites. By rotating the toys that your toddler can play with, you add artificial novelty and variety to their playtime.

If your child is adopted, understand that you will have to answer some tough questions when your kid becomes an appropriate age. Adopted children are always going to want to know where they were originally from, and naturally they will look to you for the answers. It is important to be honest with your child, the younger they are when you tell them, the better they will be able to adjust to the idea as they get older.

If traveling with children, try to find the designated family lane when you arrive at the security checkpoint. They can be found at most airports. Going through this separate line will allow you to take a little more time without having to interact with other grumpy travelers. Everyone must remove their shoes and all items must go on the belt for x-ray examination.
