Many times young children have trouble changing. If they are pulled away from something too soon, it can trigger a melt down.

It is important for parents to stop themselves from trying too hard to influence which colleges their children select. It can sometimes have the opposite effect if teens are coerced into making decisions that they do not desire.

“Me time” is extremely beneficial to parents and these brief periods of time without the kids should occur at regular intervals. Even if you are only able to get away for a one or two hours, ask a trusted friend or family member to watch your kids for you. Without the occasional break, parents are more likely to become very stressed. This increases tension in the household and may cause a mom or dad to snap at their children.

Place retro-reflective material on all children who go to school in order to make their backpack and clothing stand out. This reflective material comes in convenient Velcro strips. This is so your child is more noticeable to crossing guards and drivers, especially earlier on in the morning.

If children live in your home, avoid smoking in the house. In fact, it’s a good idea to stop smoking completely. Secondhand smoke affects health just as much as firsthand. Second-hand smoke is responsible for a multitude of health issues in a child, including bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia and other respiratory problems.

If a toddler is becoming bored with his or her toys or isn’t playing with them as much, rotate them. Toddlers typically lose interest in a toy within a few days unless it is a beloved favorite. By rotating frequently and using all of the available toys, you can keep your toddler interested, without having to buy more and more new toys.

Don’t expect an instant bond with your stepchildren. Many kids whose parents are separated experience serious resentment. Take your time and don’t rush things, so that any stepchildren can take their time getting to know you and feeling comfortable with you.

Kids by nature want to be independent, giving them tasks to perform while you clean around the house can help them gain confidence. For example, if you are preparing to vacuum the floor, have your child help you pick up any toys that are laying around. When folding dry laundry, let your child sort some of the socks. These little tasks can help the child feel like they’re independent and it also helps you out.
